About six hundred years ago, Macht fought a group of mages including Frieren and utterly defeated them. He turned Frieren's right arm into gold, which took her nearly a hundred years to dispel, but this allowed her to visualize the dispelling of the "Magic that Turns All Things into Gold." About ten years before the Hero's party set out, Macht encountered a priest while executing a village massacre mission assigned by the Demon King. He discovered that the priest actually expressed pity for him because he did not understand "malice" or "guilt," so after killing him, he began to ponder the meaning of these two concepts. He started to take an interest in humans and wanted to understand them further. Macht initially tried to understand humans by killing them and watching them kill each other, but gained nothing. He then visited Solitär, who was keen on studying humans, and was told that the similarities between demons and humans were merely the result of "convergent evolution," that their inner natures were completely different, and that it was unrealistic to expect mutual understanding or coexistence, making any effort to do so a waste of time. Macht stated that he had an endless amount of time to waste and continued his slaughter, hoping to gain some understanding of humans through it. About a year after the Hero's party set out, Macht was invited by Schlacht to join the campaign to subjugate theHero of the South. He initially refused due to lack of interest, but reluctantly agreed after discovering Grausam was also going. Macht observed from Schlacht's expression that the outcome of this battle would be dire and offered his blessings for his future. Macht survived the battle with the Hero of the South. Schlacht had foreseen in advance thatsomeonewould peer into Macht's memories, so he arranged for Grausam, who also survived, to erase Macht's memories from the time he parted with Schlacht until after the battle with the Hero of the South. After that, Macht continued killing humans and watching humans kill each other, but still gained nothing, until one day he observed a nameless boy who, after killing his ownChildhood friend, showed intense emotional fluctuations afterwards. Macht was overjoyed, convinced that killing those closer to oneself would yield more results. About ten years after the Hero's party set out, Macht attacked the LordGluck's carriage, wounding Gluck. Through conversation with Macht, Gluck discovered that he was very interested in human “malice” and “guilt.” He claimed to understand these two concepts very well and suggested he might be able to make Macht understand them too, proposing a deal. Gluck would help Macht understand these concepts and stay with him until he did; in exchange, Macht would serve Gluck to help him achieve his political goals. Macht readily agreed to the deal, marking the beginning of a strange symbiosis between human and demon. Macht became Gluck's retainer, helping him eliminate all political rivals and transforming a city full of malice into a prosperous one. Taking advantage of the Demon King's defeat, Gluck officially appointed Macht as the mage of the Gluck family. Gluck assigned Macht, who was skilled in deception, to handle diplomatic work while also taking necessary lethal measures; he stated that this might teach Macht the concepts of justice and evil, and eventually lead him to understand “malice” and “guilt,” promising to stay with Macht until the end. In addition to these duties, Macht also wiped out the remnants of the Demon King's army that attacked, and met Gluck's distant relative Denken, becoming his magic teacher. He taught Denken various techniques and tactics, training him into an excellent mage, and also noticed him and Gluck's daughterLektüre's feelings for each other. He even appeared very happy when they married later on. The Empire once sent an elite mage,FressAs an envoy, Fress went to Weise for a routine investigation. Macht saw that Fress possessed the terrifying strength to destroy Weise alone and suspected the Empire's purpose for sending such a powerful figure. Therefore, he advocated for striking first to eliminate Fress, but Gluck refused and personally went to welcome the envoy in a normal manner. About twenty years after the Hero's party ended their adventure, nobles seeking to regain power fabricated rumors about Gluck and Macht and attempted to use the Bracelet of Servitude to restrain Macht's behavior. Gluck, knowing that the nobles did not understand the nature of demons, cooperatively used the Bracelet of Servitude to give Macht two commands: "obey" and "cannot harbor malice."[2]。 Hero_HimmelAbout twenty years before his death, Gluck had aged significantly after experiencing life and death partings. Macht, who had been by Gluck's side for thirty years, told Gluck that he cherished the experiences of those thirty years very much. Because of this, he intended to destroy the city to understand the concepts of "malice" and "guilt." To Macht's slight surprise, Gluck simply stated he had long anticipated this outcome, asked Macht to light one last cigarette for him, and predicted that Macht would face retribution in the future. Macht, reflecting on the moments of the past thirty years, turned everything in Weise into gold. Macht did not die from harboring malice even by the next day, but he did indeed feel certain sensations at the moment he turned Weise into gold. Therefore, he believed that conducting the experiment again in another place would surely be meaningful; however, the intrusion into WeiseSerieinterrupted his plan. Because his Magic of Turning All Things into Gold was reflected by Serie's "Curse Reflection Magic" and he fell into a difficult battle, the fight was interrupted by several First-Class Mages who broke into Weise just as he was preparing to attack Serie with all his might. They told Serie that if Macht died, Weise would never be restored, and persuaded her to agree to seal Macht using a specialized barrier for demons. Macht could not break this powerful and complex barrier, and the cognitive interference magic attached to the outside made it almost impossible to detect the existence of Weise; thus, he lived leisurely within the barrier, occasionally killing a few reckless explorers who broke through, turning them into gold after killing them and hanging them at the entrance of Weise to warn future visitors. Thirty years after the death of Himmel the Hero, the Continental Magic Associationbegan preparations for the conquest of Weise, the Golden Land. Macht completely wiped out the vanguard led by First-Class MageTaoand had the team's Second-Class MagesFleuAtLernnenandEdelturn into gold in front of them as a demonstration of power, but the two still entered Weise. Initially, he wanted to kill Lernnen first and then turn him into gold, but was instead held back by Lernnen. Upon learning the purpose of their visit, he decided to kill them as quickly as possible, but instead had nearly a hundred years of his memories read by Edel, and the two successfully escaped the Golden Land. Later, this memory was also passed on to Denken. Denken, who took over the management of Weise, came to negotiate with Macht every day. Although there was no result each time, he persisted in seeking the possibility of a peaceful evolution. One day, he brought Frieren's party to talk with Macht. Frieren continuously provoked Macht during the subsequent conversation, actually hoping to observe the moment he cast magic up close to gain more information about the Magic of Turning All Things into Gold; Macht, cautious due to his previous battle with Serie, did not act rashly, and the negotiation ended there. After Denken's party left, Macht recalled his previous conversation with Schlacht and the question Frieren posed during the negotiation: "Why kill for the sake of coexistence with humans?" and joyfully stated that Frieren was welcome to read his memories as much as she liked. Shortly thereafter, Solitär arrived at Weise and spent two months breaking the great barrier covering the Golden Land. Macht learned that Solitär had originally come to kill him because his actions in seeking coexistence would lead to extremely bad consequences; however, Solitär later changed her plan to helping Macht with the goal of "changing his mind or witnessing his end" because she could not guarantee a victory. Thus, the two joined forces against the remaining Denken andFernandStarkEngaged in battle. Macht fought his apprentice Denken, marveling at the immense progress Denken had made over the years. Fearing that Frieren might escape his sphere of influence, he decided to end the battle quickly and used Diagoldze, turning Fern and Stark—who were fighting Solitär—into gold, but he was countered by Denken, who had mastered curse-reflection magic. He then fought Denken while resisting his own gold transformation, eventually teaming up with the arriving Solitär to turn Denken into gold as well.Big Sis Soli: My triple kill is gone!He learned from Solitär that Frieren had the possibility of dispelling Diagoldze, meaning the battle was not yet over. As Solitär expected, Frieren, having dispelled Diagoldze, burst into the battlefield and reverted Denken's gold transformation. Frieren expressed respect for Macht's ideals but also pointed out that Macht was an enemy of humanity, as demons' pursuit of coexistence with humans would inevitably lead to the extinction of mankind. The two sides resumed their battle, and Macht continued to fight Denken, who was now immune to the gold transformation, within El Dorado. Although his trump card was countered, and Denken continued to grow during this fight, Macht still held the absolute upper hand. Nevertheless, he was still wounded due to his Sensing his defeat was imminent, Macht fled along the streets of Weise, reflecting on his life and lamenting that he was no different from other demons. He encountered Glück, who had returned to his original form, and told him that his retribution had come. Seeing Denken in pursuit, Macht attempted to take Glück hostage[3], and was immediately eliminated by Denken. With this, all of the Seven Sages of Destruction had fallen. Afterwards, Glück told Frieren's party that Macht died magnificently and thanked them for giving him the best possible end. |
