Introduction
Starting from March 30, 2008, a thread appeared on 2ch's News Flash (VIP) board with the goal of creating a non-existent virtual singer and then posting it toniconico, to trick people into thinking a new VOCALOID singer had been released as an April Fools' joke. However, it attracted a lot of discussion and attention. Users at the time even designed a "Kasane Teto Voicebank Promotion Page" modeled after Crypton Future Media's (Hatsune Mikuofficial) "Hatsune Miku (V2) Voicebank Promotion Page."[1]Kasane Teto subsequently received a UTAU voicebank, with the voice provided by Mayo Oyamano. Under the care and attention of the public (character settings co-created through forum posts, with design and voice contributed by users), Kasane Teto transformed from a "lie" into a real virtual singer, later becoming one of the representative characters of UTAU.
The person who illustrated Kasane Teto's image,線(Sen), and Mayo Oyamano, who provided the voice for Kasane Teto, respectively hold the copyrights for Kasane Teto's image and voice. Following this, a circle called "TwinDrill" was formed around these two individuals to handle various matters related to Kasane Teto.
Due to her character design being a parody of Crypton virtual singers like Hatsune Miku, Kasane Teto went through a period of unclear copyright and commercial difficulties. After a long period of communication and coordination, Crypton and TwinDrill reached an agreement in 2010, and in April, Crypton and TwinDrill organized some of the copyrights[2], and without requiring a derivative work copyright licensing contract with TwinDrill, on the creative website established by Crypton,piaproopened the submission function for Kasane Teto's image (Akita Neru、Yowane Hakuthe two characters were licensed to Crypton via a licensing agreement, allowing users to submit content to Piapro), recognizing Kasane Teto's independence, and the copyright was not transferred to Crypton. With Crypton's help, one could also start to use the " in karaoke重音テト" name, and at the same time, derivative works related to Kasane Teto's image started to follow the Piapro Character License (PCL) agreement (most clauses), while Crypton became the sole window for TwinDrill's commercial cooperation regarding Kasane Teto, which continues to this day (January 2026)[3]. In the same year, TwinDrill began commercial use of Kasane Teto, and on July 25, at the event hosted by Kaiyodo Co., Ltd.,Wonder Festival(WF2010), three figure prototypes were licensed for exhibition and sale through the "One-Day Copyright System." In October, the Kasane Teto song album "Graduation From Lie" was released via Crypton's music labelKARENTdigitally released[4]。
In 2011, driven by Crypton, Kasane Teto was added as a DLC character module toSEGAthe game developed by SEGA, "Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA 2nd》。[Note 4]
On October 12, 2021, a new voicebank was released『エッジ音源』、『語尾息吸い』and『滑らか音源』。
On April 3, 2023, it was announced that the Synthesizer V voicebank would be released on April 27 of the same year, and a demo was released.
