Uma Musume—they are born to run.
They bear names from another world, names with tumultuous lives or glorious histories...
Inheriting those souls, they run,
because that is their destiny.
For the Uma Musume of this world,
the outcome of future races is yet to be known!
Their eyes are fixed only on the finish line ahead,
never stopping their stride...
A multimedia project centered around a mobile game.
The game genre is a training simulation game, where the content involves raising anthropomorphized racehorse characters called "Umamusume," with the goal of winning races in the "Twinkle Series."
It was originally scheduled for release in winter 2018 but was delayed multiple times. It was later released on iOS/Android on February 24, 2021. The Windows version was opened on March 10, 2021. On March 29, 2021, the release of the Korean version (South Korea) and the Simplified Chinese version (Mainland China) was announced during an official livestream, and the Traditional Chinese version was announced on February 15, 2022. On August 4, 2023, pre-registration for the Simplified Chinese server officially opened, and pre-downloads for the Simplified Chinese server began at 12:00 on August 28.
The overall mechanics and gameplay of the game are very similar to Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakyuu,THE IDOLM@STER SHINY COLORSand other similar games. As of now, the prototypes for the trainable Umamusume in the game are all based on real-life racehorses. In the game, throughroguelikemethods, players train an Umamusume. Once training is complete, they can be added to a team to participate in story races, the arena, monthly races, and other activities.
Each training process in the game (hereinafter referred to as a "run") consists of 3 years (36 months) plus 3 months of endgame races. Each month is divided into two "turns": the first half and the second half.
In each run, every Umamusume has certain goals to achieve, which specify participating in and reaching a certain rank in specific races or reaching a certain number of fans at designated time points[6], if the number of fans is insufficient at the specified time point (including being insufficient to participate in a designated race), the training run will end immediately; if a race is entered but the required rank is not achieved, a "Clock" item can be used to return to before the race starts and retry, while motivation[7](やる気) will also increase by one level (up to "Perfect"). There is a specified limit on the number of "Clocks" that can be used in a single run; if the rank goal is still not met after all uses are exhausted, the training will end immediately.
When starting a training session, players need to designate two already trained Umamusume, allowing the current Umamusume to inherit attribute factors from these two (the parents) and their own inheritance sources (the grandparents) across a total of three inheritance events. They also randomly gain skill factors and potentially aptitude factors, which improveAfter the 4th anniversary, players can rent fixed decks provided by the official game, or choose not to borrow support cards from friends and use only their own support cards, used to trigger events and provide bonuses during the training process.
In each turn, players can choose from five options: Training, Outing, Rest, Clinic (if there are negative status effects), and Race (after the Debut race).
After the 4th anniversary, the URA scenario and The Twinkle Legends scenario added an auto-training function.
During training, players can choose from Speed (スピード), Stamina (スタミナ), Power (パワー), Guts (根性), Wisdom (賢さ) five types of training. By training, players can significantly increase that attribute and slightly increase 1-2 other attributes. Training also has an energy system; if energy is too low, there is a certain failure rate. Additionally, the 6 Support Card Umamusume (and several characters from fixed storylines) will be randomly assigned to these 5 projects (or may not appear), providing bonuses for the training and increasing Bond Gauge. When a Support Card's Bond Gauge reaches level 4 and they appear in their specialized training type, a special bonus (represented as a rainbow ring in the game) will be triggered, granting a large amount of attribute bonuses. Triggering rainbow training while carrying certain negative status effectshas a chance toremove that negative status effect.
The attributes increased by each type of training are as follows:
Players can choose to go out alone or with a Friend (requires bringing a Friend or Group Support Card at the start and triggering the corresponding event).
When not in Summer Training Camp, going out alone will randomly result in an Outing, a Shrine VisitShrineor going toKaraoke, one of which increases the Motivation level by one. Outings restore a small amount of Energy, while Shrine VisitsShrinewill restore varying amounts of Energy from small to large based on the fortune result; the latter increases the Motivation level by two but does not restore Energy. Going out with a Friend will trigger fixed events from the corresponding Support Card to provide certain bonuses. When visiting a shrine while having a negative statusShrine, a fortune-telling prayer event will be triggered, witha certain chanceto remove the current negative status.
During Summer Training Camp, you cannot go out with Friends. Going out alone will only result in playing at the beach, which restores a large amount of Energy and increases the Motivation level by one; if you have a negative status while playing at the beach, itwill definitelyremove the negative status.
From the second year onwards, going out has a chance to trigger the Crane Game minigame at the arcade, where rewards are given based on the player's performance. The Crane Game can only be triggered once per training session.
The part where blood pressure is most likely to rise.By consuming one turn to sleepSleeping for half a month at a timeCan restore the Uma Musume's stamina; there is a high chance of triggering the "Rest Finished" event, restoring 50 stamina; there is a low chance of triggering the "Insufficient Rest" event, restoring only 30 stamina while potentially gaining the Late Night (夜ふかし気味)" status ailment, which has a chance to reduce stamina by 10 or lower motivation by one level each turn; conversely, there is also a low chance of triggering the "Well Rested" event, restoring 70 stamina and having a certain chance to remove the Late Night status.
If the Uma Musume has a status ailment, you can choose to go to the Health Center for treatment. While restoring 20 stamina, there is ahigh chanceto remove the current negative status.
During the training process, Uma Musume must inevitably participate in some races. From the Debut Race to the final race, races in the training scenario have fan count requirements before participation. After winning, some gold and items are randomly given; a victory of at least 8 horse lengths has a small chance of giving a random amount of Jewels. All G1-level races have specific victory trophies, which are a type of character training material. For a detailed description of races, please see the "Race Mode" section.
Uma Musume races are fully automated, and players cannot perform any operations. The racing mode is basically consistent with real-life horse racing, and the reason why an Uma Musume's "one body length" (バ身) is the same as in reality can be found in theTerminology section, only achieving first place counts as winning the race. There is also a motivation system during races, where buffs/debuffs are gained based on the current motivation level. During training, the motivation before a race is the current training status, while for other races, the motivation level is randomly generated before the start. For story races, using specific Umamusume will guarantee their motivation level is "Perfect".
For non-training races, players can use items to increase the Umamusume's motivation and obtain favorable conditions for their own Umamusume.

A race in the world of Umamusume. Compared to humans, they have superior stamina and speed, and most are fair-featured, similar toElvesbeings. They have tails, and their ears are horse-like ears located on top of their headsNotfour ears, with well-developed auricular muscles, and can reach running speeds of up to 60 km/h. Note:Horses in the usual sense do not exist in the world of Umamusume, so in the Japanese and Traditional Chinese versions, the corresponding kanji "馬" has changed from four dots to two dots. However, when "馬" appears as a radical, it is still written with four dots, such as東京優駿、駿川たづなetc. Legend has it that in ancient times, the horse radical also had two dots, but later a poet wrote the two dots in characters like 駆 and 駿 as four dots, explaining that "the running speed of an Umamusume is so fast that it looks like she has four legs to him." This subsequently became popular among poets and became a widely used popular variant character among the common people. During the Meiji era, the four-dot writing style became mainstream, but two-dot horse radicals can still be found on ancient stone monuments.[8]One horse length (バ身) is approximately 2.5 meters long, the same as in reality, and is said to come from the length of the arms of the Umamusume who was the prototype for the Goddess Statue when her arms are outstretched.
