Based on "Sound! Euphonium", it is an animated film, but the title does not include the original's main title, instead being presented as a "new work." Most of the production staff are from the animated film "A Silent Voice".
The work is adapted from the new novel *Sound! Euphonium: Kitauji High School Concert Band's Turbulent Second Movement* released by the original author in 2017, focusing onYoroizuka MizoreandKasaki Nozomias the protagonists. The title *Liz and the Blue Bird* is the name of the free choice piece for the concert band competition in the original work (adapted from a fairy tale), borrowing from the fairy tale play "Blue Bird" the imagery of the blue bird symbolizing happiness.
The work was successfully selected for the consideration list for Best Animated Feature at the 91st Academy Awards, but ultimately did not receive a nomination.[1]。
Synopsis
—A blue bird came to the side of a girl who was once alone—
Mizore Yoroizuka, 3rd year high school student Oboehandled.
Nozomi Kasaki, 3rd year high school student Flutehandled.
Mizore, who finds happiness in every day spent with Nozomi, and Nozomi, who returned after once leaving the club.
Since the moment in junior high when Nozomi spoke to the lonely Mizore,
To Mizore, Nozomi was the world itself.
Mizore cannot shake the anxiety that Nozomi might disappear from before her once again.
Then, the time came for their final competition together.
The free choice piece is "Liz and the Blue Bird."
Based on a fairy tale, this piece features a duet for oboe and flute.
