Mutsumi Wakaba(
Tsukinomori Girls' Academy1st year high school. Formerly theCRYCHIC's guitarist,Sakiko Togawa's childhood friend.
Lacks emotional expression and is usually a silent child. She is a member of the Tsukinomori Academy Gardening Club, where she grows cucumbers as well as tomatoes, eggplants, and more.
AtAve Mujica Her member codename Mortis is taken from Lacus Mortis (Lake of Death), meaning death, and her mask is themed after daisies because of this meaning. As the rhythm guitarist[4], Mortis brings more depth and mystery to the band's sound. While her playing style may not be prominent, her unwavering performance is the cornerstone of establishing Ave Mujica's sound.
She has been practicing guitar since childhood, and the guitar model she currently uses is: SCHECTER EX-24-7st Ave Mujica Proto Model.[5]
Father
Since "Wakaba" is a common place name in Japan, there are various theories regarding the specific origin of Wakaba Mutsumi's surname. If considering old place names, it could potentially be Takada-Wakaba-cho, currently located in Zoshigaya, Toshima Ward, Tokyo, corresponding toSakiko TogawaTakada-Toyokawa-cho.

Wakaba Mutsumi is the daughter of comedian Wakaba Takafumi and actress Mori Minami. Growing up in the spotlight, Mutsumi had almost no personal space. To cope with various social situations, she began trying to play different roles from the age of three: at home, she was gentle and taciturn like a doll, while outside, she was socially adept. However, since Mutsumi encountered the guitar—something that "belonged to her"—the taciturn "Mutsumi" at home became her primary personality, and the other roles she played almost completely vanished.
In middle school, together with Sakiko

In high school, she continued to attend Tsukinomori Girls' Academy along with Soyo. She kept in touch with Sakiko, butfollowing Sakiko's wishes, she was unwilling to reveal Sakiko's current situation to Soyo. She had privately gone toHaneoka Girls' Academyfind Sakiko, and later the two of themHazawa Coffee Shopchatted, where Sakiko expressed her wish for Mutsumi not to act as a messenger. After Soyo formed a new band, she mentioned inviting Mutsumi to join several times, but Mutsumi remained indifferent. Meanwhile, at Hazawa Coffee Shop, Sakiko complained to Mutsumi about Soyo looking for her multiple times after school; Mutsumi revealed to her that Soyo had formed a new band and told her that if she wanted to see Soyo, she could go watch the new band's performance. At that night's performance, Sakiko was struck by the "non-CRYCHIC" version of "Haruhikage]" (Mutsumi's line added in the mobile game's story) caused her to break down emotionally and leave the venue; Mutsumi looked in the direction Sakiko fled but did not chase after her.
After Sakiko fled RiNG, under pressure from Soyo's manipulation, Mutsumi reluctantly revealed Sakiko's residence to Soyo and accompanied her to find Sakiko. When Sakiko asked her if she had truly agreed to Soyo's request to rebuild CRYCHIC, she responded with a silence that implied denial (changed to a direct denial "I have no such intention" in the game)., and then witnessed the famous scene of Soyo kneeling with her own eyes., after which she followed the despondent Soyo all the way to the station. Soyo only left behind the words: "Don't follow me," before boarding the train and leaving Mutsumi alone on the platform.
AtUika MisumiresolvedTomori Takamatsu's emotional knot, Mutsumi approached the reconciled Tomori Takamatsu andTaki Shiina, and revealed to them the news that "Soyo is lost," indirectly accelerating the reconciliation of the five members of MyGO!!!!!. During this time, Sakiko proposed the idea of forming a new band to Mutsumi, who remained hesitant. Later, accompanied byUmiri Yahata, she went to watch MyGO!!!!!'s performance. Before the performance ended, she went to the dressing room and secretly left cucumbers she had grown herself, placed in a chocolate bag, as a gift. After the performance, Soyo, knowing the source of the cucumbers and that Mutsumi had contacted Tomori, chased after her and asked, "How was the concert?" Mutsumi replied, "It was really great," but Soyo was unhappy with this answer, and the gift was harshly returned.[6]。
Sakiko and Mutsumi met at Mutsumi's house, where Sakiko invited her to join the band again; Mutsumi finally decided to join the new band formed by Sakiko.Ave Mujica. She felt that Sakiko was "about to break," which made Sakiko very dissatisfied upon hearing it, believing Mutsumi was being condescending and stating that her own fragility had been completely swept away. Subsequently, she participated in Ave Mujica's first performance (Primo dia in scaena), where her stage name was Mortis.

One month after the debut, Ave Mujica performed at the Budokan (Nostri Nosctis). Before the performance, Mutsumi went to pick up Sakiko and saw Sakiko rushing out of her house carrying luggage. In the car, Sakiko cried and cursed her deadbeat father for being so decadent, while Mutsumi only asked, "Is the Budokan okay?" which stabilized Sakiko's emotions. During the official performance,Nyamu Yutenjisuddenly turned on Sakiko, and after taking off her own mask, walked to Mutsumi's side and snatched off Mutsumi's mask. Mutsumi covered her face in panic. After the performance, the band members trended on social media, with Mutsumi ranking the highest, but by then, Mutsumi already showed signs of a breakdown. At this time, the media discovered that Mutsumi was the daughter of a famous actor and a comedian. Upon returning to school, Mutsumi was confronted by Soyo and, under pressure, told Soyo that the band's organizer was Sakiko.
Thereafter, because Uika needed to balance sumimi's affairs, along with requirements from some organizers, many activities such as interviews and photo shoots were pushed onto Mutsumi, intensifying her stress. Coupled with the neglect shown by her mother after her teammates' home visit and the public exposure of the underground rehearsal room that was her sanctuary at home, Mutsumi began to experience symptoms of hyperventilation and hallucinations. During an interview, Mutsumi, whose mental state was clearly abnormal, somehow uttered the words, "It won't last long."[7], this single sentence was interpreted by the outside world as Ave Mujica being on the verge of disbanding. After this incident, Mutsumi was questioned even more aggressively by the media about issues related to the band and her family, putting her under immense pressure. Mutsumi was unable to sleep at night, sometimes spending the entire night in the basement holding her guitar.
At the first stop of Ave Mujica's national tour (Continuatio Festi), Mutsumi could only walk by leaning against the walls just to reach the venue, yet no one took action regarding her abnormality. As a result, after finishing the intro of the first song, Mutsumi accidentally played a wrong note and then collapsed onto her seat like a puppet with its strings cut[8]. However, after Sakiko's improvisational performance saved the show, Mutsumi's collapse was instead perceived by the audience as part of the performance and was well-received. After seeing this, Nyamu believed Mutsumi's acting skills were superb, so the next day she went to the practice room to ask for Mutsumi's social media account, dragged her into filming videos, and even suggested that the two of them quit the band together. Mutsumi refused Nyamu on the grounds that "Sakiko would be angry" and "Sakiko is about to break," while Nyamu asserted that Sakiko had become a stumbling block for Mutsumi. After Sakiko and Umiri arrived, they discussed the request from the "Music Space" program production team to reenact that scene. Regarding this request, a quarrel broke out between Nyamu, who "prioritizes audience needs," and Sakiko, who "advocates for maintaining musicality." Mutsumi, caught in the middle and remaining indifferent, began to show symptoms of dissociative identity disorder—the only remaining role among the countless ones she had played in her childhood survived as Mutsumi's protector, questioning herself in the form of a puppet: "Even though I'm already about to break, do I really still have to obey Sakiko's every word?"
At the Sendai stop of the tour, Mutsumi did not reenact the previous performance, which caused Nyamu and Sakiko to have another big argument at the station, and the keywords in the conversation of those present triggered Mutsumi's nightmare memories of CRYCHIC's disbandment. After returning to Tokyo, a dazed Mutsumi followed Sakiko and Uika in the opposite direction all the way to the vicinity of Uika's home, attempting to find comfort. Noticing Mutsumi's abnormality, Sakiko sent Uika away and interrogated Mutsumi on why she was unwilling to clearly take her side. Mutsumi felt that whenever she spoke, things would turn bad; hearing this, Sakiko began to vent her anger wildly, but then suddenly realized her selfishness was putting pressure on Mutsumi and fled. All of this was witnessed by Uika, who was hiding nearby.
When it came time to appear on the program, Nyamu and Sakiko were still arguing during the commercial break before going on stage about whether to perform. This caused Mutsumi, who was nearly despairing over the band's current state, to completely break down. Under the persuasion of the protector puppet, Mutsumi surrendered her body and soul to her—"

After the improvisational performance, Mortis stated on the program that she didn't know Ave Mujica's songs at all, but it was taken as a joke. She would proactively steer the conversation toward her parents instead of deliberately avoiding it like Mutsumi did. She got along more harmoniously with her classmates and became a popular figure. She began to have normal interactions with the band members (except for Sakiko) and would occasionally mimic others' speech, unknowingly making the other members revolve around her. Sakiko tried to warn everyone about Mutsumi's abnormality, believing she shouldn't be so frivolous, but everyone else thought it was harmless. In a car on the way to an interview, Mortis "entrusted" Sakiko to Uika, saying that Sakiko was always very tired. Uika felt that Mutsumi was caring for Sakiko and felt closer to her, but Mortis asked Uika to keep what she said a secret. During this period, she also had deep conversations with Umiri and Nyamu, learning about their thoughts.
It wasn't until before the Fukuoka performance that Mortischeerfullyrevealed that she "doesn't know how to play the guitar at all~." This move confused the members and led an exasperated Sakiko to pull her aside for a talk. An angry Sakiko scolded Mortis, who then revealed her true identity, bluntly stating her hatred for Sakiko and pointing out that it was Sakiko's fault that Mutsumi had fallen into a slumber. She also said that Mutsumi would never return after seeing what Sakiko had become, frightening Sakiko into a defensive posture.
That night, Mortis went to Sakiko's hotel room and encountered the other members discussing the issue of Mutsumi's personality. She proposed that she could rely on her acting skills to win over the audience, but was rejected by Sakiko. Dissatisfied with Sakiko's performance, Nyamu proposed disbanding. Mortis, who had been very composed until then, suddenly began to panic and told everyone that Ave Mujica should continue, during which she also blurted out all the true thoughts of Uika, Umiri, and Nyamu., which was met with silence from everyone; Nyamu also felt that Mutsumi shouldn't be there. When the final act of the Fukuoka performance was announced, Metis let out a scream that shook the entire venueshrieking, and she remained kneeling on the stage after the audience had left.
In the month after the band's dissolution, she stayed indoors. Sensing something was wrong, Soyo visited Mutsumi's home. Upon reaching Mutsumi's room, Soyo heard strange noises; quietly opening the door, she saw a room in ruins with broken dolls scattered everywhere. Metis was holding a ballet shoe to her ear like a phone while stroking a guitar, repeatedly saying, "Doctor, please, she hasn't woken up yet." Greatly startled, Soyo accidentally stepped on a doll and fell, catching Metis's attention. Seeing Soyo, Metis tearfully pleaded with her, "Soyo... please wake Mutsumi-chan up..."
After calming down, Soyo learned about Metis's current situation through patient conversationWhen she intended to leave midway, Metis directly imitated the famous scene of Soyo kneeling at Asukayama, and even helped Metis tidy up the room, but after seeing her using the "phone" again to seek help from the doctor, she picked up the other shoe and pretended to be the doctor answering the calladvising her that she could learn the guitar, as it might stimulate Mutsumi to wake up. After staying with her for two days,[9], Soyo took Metis to RiNG, where they encountered the members of MyGO!!!!! who had just finished rehearsal. Rana immediately saw that the person before her was not Mutsumi but Metis, saying, "Two souls in one body, the other is sleeping," which successfully caught Metis's attention. After Rana left, Metis followed her all the way to the former site of SPACE while clutching her guitarand happily petted cats with Rana, when they gathered again the next day, the two had become so close that Soyo, who had stayed by Mutsumi's side for three days and nights, felt jealous.
Subsequently, Rana stood on the small cafe stage and played "Mayoigo." The "singing" of the guitar successfully woke Mutsumi up. Just as Metis was rejoicing, the doll-like Mutsumi in the inner world learned of Metis's actions through memory playback and angrily questioned why she had made such a mess, intending to see Sakiko. Metis, who hated Sakiko, refused Mutsumi, and the two began to argue in the inner world. As their argument escalated into physical movement, Mutsumi rolled directly down the stairsHowever, her body was unharmed; the physical constitution of these band girls is truly terrifying.... Her frantic words and actions attracted onlookers who began filming, leading to rumors that "Ave Mujica is about to be revived." Soyo, catching up and realizing the gravity of the situation, knelt down to shield Mutsumi, pleading with the passersby to stop filming her in such a state. Ultimately, Metis gained the upper hand in the struggle for the body and locked Mutsumi away in the mental space using various cluttered objects.
Returning home, Metis tells Soyo that everything was done by that "hateful Togawa Sakiko," and gives Sakiko's father's address when Soyo asks for Sakiko's address. After Soyo leaves, Mutsumi asks Metis why she told Soyo about Sakiko and the address, pleading with Metis to stop Soyo from looking for Sakiko, only to be pushed into a pile of dolls by Metis in the end. Meanwhile, Metis also falls into a sense of nihilism, wondering "what exactly am I doing all this for."
After Soyo brings Sakiko to Mutsumi's house, Metis throws dolls at Sakiko, stating that Sakiko is a bad child and a cold-blooded devil, and that Anon, Tomori, and Soyo are all traitors. After they leave, Anon points out that Metis's words are all lines from a TV drama starring Mori Minami, making Sakiko realize that Metis has completely turned into a doll at this point. After that, Sakiko asks to see Mutsumi several times but is refused by Metis. In the night, Mutsumi and Metis confront each other again, and an enraged Metis throws a book at a mirror. Eventually, Mutsumi briefly regains control of her body and goes out to meet Sakiko. However, as Sakiko embraces Mutsumi through the railing, Metis takes over again and pushes Sakiko away. Returning inside, a pained Metis also expresses self-doubt: "Am I the bad child after all?"
Unable to stop worrying about Mutsumi, Taki and Soyo arrive outside Mutsumi's house one after another after rehearsal, and then enter the house with Sakiko to wait. At this point, Metis finally agrees to let Mutsumi appear. Mutsumi exchanges her true feelings with the three, expressing her apology for the slip of the tongue that led to the collapse of CRYCHIC. After everyone returns to RiNG, Anon gives her guitar to Mutsumi on the pretext that "Rana has disappeared to who knows where," allowing the former CRYCHIC members to take the stage and perform again during rehearsal time. After the performance, Mutsumi and Sakiko leave the stage, only to be stopped by Umiri, who wants to reform Ave Mujica. Sakiko refuses Umiri's invitation, while Metis, feeling unneeded, almost drowns in the ocean of her inner world.

For a period of time after that, Sakiko takes the initiative to stay at Mutsumi's house to care for her. Taking advantage of the good weather, she takes Mutsumi out for a walk, and Mutsumi leads her to the karaoke place where CRYCHIC used to gather. Mutsumi finished singing the oldsong from back thenand then proposed to reform CRYCHIC, but Metis immediately appears to oppose this, informing Sakiko of the fact that the "Mutsumi" in her eyes has been just one of the many roles Mutsumi has played from the start. Metis verbally proposes the diametrically opposite request to "reform Ave Mujica," while in the inner world, Mutsumi and Metis break into another argument. Mutsumi believes Metis doesn't understand CRYCHIC or Sakiko at all, and points out that Metis is actually the one who messed everything up.
To gain Wakamugi's trust, Umiri sends an invitation to reform Ave Mujica in the group chat and receives a reply from Mutsumi. Umiri takes Mutsumi back to her home and realizes that Metis is the one currently in control of the body. Metis believes she will disappear if she doesn't form Mujica, so Umiri tries to teach her how to fake-play the guitar and advises her: "You have to become the real thing." Thus, Metis begins to practice hard, which on one hand arouses Mutsumi's dissatisfaction[10], and on the other hand, gives Sakiko, who comes to visit, a false signal—that it is Mutsumi practicing the guitar and that she indeed wants to reform CRYCHIC. After reporting to Umiri that she has "learned three songs," Umiri believes Metis still needs to "act more like it." A depressed Metis, sitting on the train with her guitar listening to recordings, undergoes another personality switch. Mutsumi takes over and decides to find Tomori, who then takes Mutsumi to the planetarium.
Outside the planetarium, the two run into Uika, who has just left. Mutsumi immediately pulls Tomori to leave, but Uika stops them and asks about Sakiko wanting to reform CRYCHIC. Mutsumi is overjoyed upon hearing this news and bluntly admits that Sakiko formed CRYCHIC because she saw Tomori's lyrics, and further points out that Sakiko formed Ave Mujica just to forget everything. Subsequently, Mutsumi invites Tomori to form CRYCHIC[11], causing Uika to fly into a rage (internally) after reading the lyrics Tomori wrote for Sakiko. Mutsumi's action to reform CRYCHIC is also directly erasing the meaning of Metis's existence.[12]After Uika leaves in a panic, Mutsumi and Metis begin to argue in the inner world again about the choice between the two bands. Mutsumi believes Metis is practicing guitar to steal her role. In the process of the two fighting over the guitar, Mutsumi inadvertently uses too much force; although she snatches the guitar, she loses her footing, breaks through the wooden railing, and falls into the abyss while clutching the guitar. Subsequently, Metis realizes she has made a terrible mistake—accidentally killing Mutsumi—and that she, as Mutsumi's protector, cannot exist independently. After a painful internal struggle, Metis realizes the solution—to play the role of "Wakaba Mutsumi" herself. Thus, when the members of Ave Mujica are arguing at RiNG about their future goals, seeing that Sakiko still firmly believes only reforming CRYCHIC can make Mutsumi happy, Metis imitates Mutsumi and says to Sakiko: "It doesn't have to be CRYCHIC, as long as I can be in a band with Saki." This sentence earned Rana's praise as an "interesting girl," while Wakamugi, standing by, feels "disgusted" by Metis's clumsy acting and exposes her on the spot. Once exposed, Metis first repeats words mechanically, then admits that "Mutsumi" has disappeared, and subsequently falls to her knees crying. Soyo helps her home, while Umiri is ordered by Taki to accompany her.
Under Nyamu's criticism, Sakiko finally chose to face her responsibilities. The next day, Sakiko came to Mutsumi's house, and facing Mortis who was lying in bed, Sakiko ordered "Mutsumi" (as she called her) to continue performing and "must not make any mistakes." After the band's reformation, everyone held their comeback debut at RiNG (Auferte memoriam vestram). Before going on stage, Mortis heard Nyamu's jealousy and affection for her, thinking in her heart that these words should be spoken to Mutsumi. During the performance, Mortis finally found Mutsumi in the abyss of her imagination and handed the guitar to her, and the original air-playing turned into real playing. Later, at the concert (Ave Mujica Mythologia), the five members performed their respective journeys through a stage play, and Mutsumi integrated superb acting skills alongside her guitar techniques and ballet steps.
After the band reformation turmoil ended, Mutsumi seemed to have returned to the mental state of "playing the role that is needed," as her mother Minami had said[13], and after returning to Tsukinomori, she started growing bitter melons with the attitude that she "must cultivate something new."[6]After an attempt to wake Mortis to deal with an interview, Mutsumi arrived at RiNG in a daze and met Rana, playing with a cat together. Rana noticed that Mortis, who had an independent personality, had disappeared, while Mutsumi admitted when discussing guitars that she couldn't tell whether she was playing or performing.
When "BanG Dream! It's MyGO!!!!!" was airing, viewers...Sakiko Togawaderived the "Sakiko-Mutsumi Sisters Theory" from the mystery of the departure from the band, concluding that "Sakiko and Mutsumi both belong to the same wealthy family, and Sakiko's branch was expelled due to family issues."
This speculation is based on the similarity in their appearance and clothing, the stylized logo of CRYCHIC corresponding to Sakiko's blue hair and Mutsumi's green hair, their stage names in Ave Mujica corresponding to lunar features that are nearly antipodal, and the relationship between character surnames and place names (MyGO!!!! character surnames come from Toshima Ward, Tokyo, which includes Takada-cho, where Takada-Toyokawa-cho and Takada-Wakaba-cho were historically located), etc.
Additionally, during Ave Mujica's performance in the final episode of "It's MyGO!!!!!", Mutsumi called Sakiko "Onee-sama," which gradually corroborated the viewers' theory......or delusion.。
