Her first appearance was in Season 1 Episode 3 (Fan service at 5:23). Tamaki Kotatsu participated in the Rookie Fire Soldier Games and declared she would show off her skills. Seeing Shinra talking to the Captain of Company 1, she came to stop him ("Don't just talk to our Captain like that") and was then groped by Shinra. At the start of the games, she fell from a pipe and landed on Arthur, then acted together with him. An accident occurred during the exercise when the facility was invaded by someone calling himself Joker. At the end, Joker scattered an unknown ash in the facility and detonated it. In the moment of crisis, Tamaki and Arthur worked together to cut open the facility's ceiling, and Shinra escaped with the two injured, Tamaki, and Arthur. Finally, Shinra landed successfully using his own ability, Arthur was caught with a cloth by Maki Oze and others, and Tamaki was saved by Captain Burns.
Season 1 Episode 7. Special Fire Force Company 8 is not just a simple fire force; Company 8 is lean and efficient, formed at the suggestion of trustworthy individuals in the Fire Defense Agency. Besides being responsible for extinguishing Infernals, Company 8 has another duty: conducting internal investigations between Special Fire Forces (Company 8 is responsible for internal investigations from Company 1 to Company 7). Suspecting that someone in Company 1's jurisdiction or within Company 1 is creating Infernals, Company 8 sent Arthur and Shinra to infiltrate Company 1 as rookie trainees to conduct a secret investigation. In Company 1, Shinra and Arthur met Takeru Noto, a Second Class Fire Soldier from Company 2 (whose family grows potatoes, also known as "Potato Noto"), Company 1 Lieutenant Rekka Hoshimiya, Company 1 Lieutenant Karim Flam, and Company 1 Lieutenant Foien Li.
Season 1 Episode 8. Arthur and Shinra's investigation was ongoing. Later, the two found a Bug that can turn people into Infernals in Lieutenant Karim Flam's room. They were spotted by Karim Flam while investigating the room. Karim Flam stated that he was also tracking the person turning others into Infernals, and the Bug in the alley was a bait he set (Arthur and Shinra had previously seen a mysterious person holding a Bug at a fire scene), and he already knew who the culprit was: Rekka Hoshimiya. Rekka Hoshimiya deceived Tamaki, saying he needed to find children for a prayer, claiming that if the prayer succeeded, the children would not turn into Infernals. Tamaki herself had a sense of admiration and affection for Rekka Hoshimiya, so she helped him find five children and one woman. When Rekka Hoshimiya was preparing to inject a Bug into a child, Tamaki said she wanted to see the ceremony. Rekka Hoshimiya hugged Tamaki and choked her unconscious. Subsequently, Rekka Hoshimiya injected a Bug into the woman, causing her to turn into an Infernal. Tamaki woke up just in time to witness this. Then, Rekka Hoshimiya injected a Bug into a child named Takumi. Takumi did not turn into an Infernal, which excited Rekka Hoshimiya. Tamaki was shocked by the scene before her ("Stop it, Lieutenant," "I admired you so much..."). Just as Rekka Hoshimiya was about to finish off Tamaki, Shinra arrived at the scene.
Season 1 Episode 9 (Fan service at 7:53). Shinra arrived at the scene, followed by Company 1 Lieutenants Karim Flam and Foien Li. Rekka Hoshimiya was eventually sniped and killed by two mysterious individuals. This was the Rekka Hoshimiya incident. After this incident, Tamaki was transferred to Company 8 for suspension and reflection, under the management of Company 8.
