The first chapter of this work was published in the June 2019 issue ofManga Time Kiraraon May 9, 2019, making itEdit's first KR-series serialization to begin in the Reiwa era. (However, it is not the first work to begin serialization in Reiwa. Neko Tsuki'sTōru-san no Tōrimichialso began serialization in the same June issue, but its first chapter was published in the Heisei-era February issue.)
Volume 1 of this work won 1st place in the New Release category of the 2020Best Yonkoma Manga of the Yearpoll; in 2021, it won 2nd place in the Established categoryeffectively 1st. In 2021, it received a nomination for theNext Manga Award.
As of the November 2022 issue when the anime adaptation was announced, this work had appeared on the cover ofManga Time Kiraramagazine 5 times, and has appeared on the cover many more times since.

In the mangaK-ON! Shuffleserialized in the same magazine, there was aparodyof this work's title in a headbutt attack called "必殺 あたまHoshikuzu Telepath," accompanied by the text "→↘↓↙←→↘↓↙←+AB." This text wasreverse-importedinto Chapter 26 of this work. When Volume 1 of Yumemiya Sakura was released, the author also drew a congratulatory illustration for it.
Setting
The real-life location for this work isShizuoka PrefectureShizuoka City[3][4][5]。
- In Chapter 1, the model for Umika's school "Fujinomisaki High School" is Shizuoka Municipal Osada-Nishi Junior High School. The anime changed it to Shizuoka Prefectural Shimizu-Minami High School, though the appearance still incorporates some elements of the original school.
- In Chapter 10, the location of the rocket duel between Umika and Matataki is Kunō Coast. The second anime key visual was also shot here, along the Strawberry Coast Road (いちご海岸通り), with the white buildings in the background being strawberry greenhouses.
- In Chapter 22, the location where Umika meets Akizuki is modeled after MaxValu Shizuoka Mariko Store. The park where they talk afterward may be Higashi-Nitta Park.
- In Chapter 27, the location where Umika and the others meet Akizuki is the north exit of JR Higashi-Shizuoka Station. The model for Akizuki's school "Tatsuoka Science and Technology High School" is Shizuoka Prefectural Science and Technology High School. In Chapter 31, Umika's classmate mentions that Tatsuoka is "a school near the station," likely referring to Shizuoka Railway Naganuma Station, which is closer to the real-life model school.
- In Chapter 24, the model for the railroad crossing where Takaraki and the other two are located is the crossing of Osada Street and the Tōkaidō Main Line.
- In the manga, the lighthouse where the Rocket Society conducts its activities references multiple real-life lighthouses. Its location is based on Shimizu Lighthouse in Shizuoka City (though not the exact same spot), its exterior is based on Cape Egmont Lighthouse in New Zealand, the main light is based on Inubōsaki Lighthouse in Chiba Prefecture, and the interior spiral staircase is based on Hinomisaki Lighthouse in Shimane Prefecture.
- Shimizu Lighthouse was built in 1912 (Meiji 45) and is Japan's earliest reinforced concrete lighthouse, standing 18 meters tall with a 5th-order Fresnel lens visible from 14 nautical miles away. The lighthouse was automated in March 1995 (Heisei 7) and remains operational. The weather vane at the top was designed by the daughter of the last lighthouse keeper, Ishii Gensuke, inspired by a celestial maiden wearing a feathered robe.
- In Chapter 37, the location where Takaraki and Raimon buy sweets is modeled after "Happy Golden Taiyaki - Prefectural Art Museum Store" (幸せの黄金鯛焼き 県立美術館前店). The matcha red bean taiyaki that appears in the work was alsoreverse-importedinto the real store.
- In Chapter 40, the coordinates revealed by the alien, when converted through the Japan Plane Rectangular Coordinate System Zone 8 (EPSG:6676), locate to the park "Miho no Matsubara" near the aforementioned lighthouse. The scenes in Chapter 41 are also set here.
Character Name Origins
- All characters' surnames are words related to "light."
- Umika's name means "deep sea," with the meaning "the ocean is the universe within Earth." Akeuchi Yuu's name is a split of the word "uchū" (universe). Haruno and Matataki's names correspond to and mirror each other.
