He appears to be a lazy, unmotivated, sloppy middle-aged man who always prioritizes his own safety and avoids responsibility, rarely showing his true strength and more often acting as a commentator while others are in the heat of battle.
In reality, he is quite responsible and kind-hearted; when faced with true danger, he cares deeply about the safety of his comrades and students, and is considered by his colleagues to be "a gentle person who, despite always complaining, is always down-to-earth."
As a Grade 1 sorcerer, he keeps his true strength hidden, but is considered by Satoru Gojo, Kento Nanami, andMei Meiothers to be among the strongest Grade 1 sorcerers, with the sentiment that "outside of the Big Three Families, Kusakabe is the strongest." Abilities
Kusakabe is one of the few Grade 1 sorcerers without an Innate Technique, but he possesses highly superb swordsmanship and extensive knowledge of jujutsu.
He uses an uchigatana as a weapon, which was destroyed during the battle with Sukuna.

- Although the author Gege Akutami clearly intended to portray Kusakabe as a hidden master with "hidden strength" who "seems lazy but is actually responsible," and attempted to prove his strength through plot patches, due to issues with characterization and the late-game plot spiraling out of control, Kusakabe rarely leaves an impression of being strong in the manga.
