Houtarou OrekiisYonezawa Honobu's novel series "Classic Literature Club series》/《Hyouka" protagonist, who enrolled in Kamiyama High School in April 2000 (changed to 2012 in the anime). He graduated from Kaburaya Middle School along with Fukube Satoshi and Ibara Mayaka.

As long as Oreki is willing to use his brain, he can provide a series of inferences very close to the truth; despite having such a mind, his school grades always remain at a level "about the same as the school average." In the midterm exam of the first semester of the first year, his grade ranked 175th out of 350 students.[1]
